Sadly, many other stories could have been used for this one.
"The Whisperer in Darkness" is still an interesting piece of litterature, mixing a lot (may be too much) elements.
An for the (few) oneq not knowing about this Futurama meme, here's the original one (yes, I'm that old).
But I guess it's still quite relevant right here and now.
