Quick and simple strip for the death of Dan Simmons.
Not a complicated one, as direct links between him and Lovecraft are not clear, but the weird depiction of the Shrike, the expedition from The Terror, or the London undergrounds from Drood may be seen as light references.
I discovered Simmons with Carrion Comfort (named in French as "the Chessboard of Evil", explaining the strip), but the main discovery came from the Hyperion cantos, still one of the best SF books of all time for me. I was less mesmerized by the later Endymion or Illium/Olympos cycles, but they still are a solid corpus of literature.
As said, The Terror and Drood were also excellent stories, with clever historical references, eerie mythologies and good character development.
I won't comment about the conservative aspect of the man, but we are here on a LOVECRAFT-inspired page, so I can also use the infamous "separate the work from the artist" wildcard.
